Any place I hang my hat is home

Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth set up the Stables in 1969, a live music venue in the garden of their house. Their influence is felt all over the world.

Artist Gordon Young said, “Me and Cleo got on like a house on fire. I asked her what the most important day you and Sir John had in MK. She instantly said without a shadow of doubt – it was the first performance they did in their own stable. She found out the date – 6 Feb and dug out the first programme and the first song they sang was “Any place I hang my hat is home”, hence the name of the column.”
