Bill Billings was born in London in 1938, left school at 15, served his apprenticeship as a printer, was awarded a scholarship to St Martin’s College of Arts but did not enrol. He moved to Milton Keynes in 1974 to work on the building sites for the new town and is remembered for his unique contributions to the new city such as the dinosaur sculpture at InterAction, Pear Tree Bridge and helping Liz Lehy make the Concrete Cows.

He was awarded an Honorary Degree from the OU in 1986 and received an MBE in 2000 for his work as an inspiring artist working with communities in Milton Keynes.
