Any place I hang my hat is home
The Stables held their first public performance on the 6 February 1970. It was set up by Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth who created the live music venue in the garden of their house. Their influence is felt all over the world.
Artist Gordon Young said, “Me and Cleo got on like a house on fire. I asked her what the most important day you and Sir John had in MK. She instantly said without a shadow of doubt – it was the first performance they did in their own stable. She found out the date – 6 Feb and dug out the first programme and the first song they sang was “Any place I hang my hat is home”, hence the name of the column.”
